Kerala University

The University of Travancore which eventually became the University of Kerala was established in 1937. At present, the University has sixteen faculties and 41 departments of teaching and research. There are 157 affiliated colleges. Besides these, there are four affiliated institutions conducting two year full time MBA course, five colleges offering MCA and ten Nursing colleges, all in the unaided sector. In addition to the Departments of teaching, the University also has several centers for studies and research in certain special areas.

The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in the fields of Arts, Social Sciences, Commerce, Engineering, Law, Philosophy, Medicine, History, Psychology, Foreign Languages, and Science. There is a business school that offers an MBA degree. Candidates are eligible for admission to a course or research in any affiliated college, only if they have passed the qualifying examination with a minimum of 55% marks.

Some of the important centers of the university are the International Centre for Kerala Studies, Sree Narayana Study Centre for Social Change, Centre for Comparative Literature, Survey Research Centre, Centre for Australian Studies, and Centre for English Language Teaching. The major role of these centers is to offer short-term and long-term study programs, and to undertake research work.

The Institute of Distance Education of the University of Kerala, is one of the pioneering centers of distance learning in the state. It offers a wide range of degree and diploma courses. The recent additions to the range are a 3 year MBA program and MHA program (Master of Hospital Administration).
