KCAET, Tavanur, Malappuram

Kelappaji College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology is located in Tavanur, Kerala. The KCAET, Tavanur is the seat of the erstwhile Rural Institute established by the Government of India in 1963. This institute was taken over by the University in 1975 and renamed as Institute of Agricultural Technology (IAT). The Kerala Agricultural University established the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering & Technology in the year 1985, by renaming IAT as "Kelappaji College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology".

The college offers B. Tech. And M. Tech. Programs in agricultural engineering. The various departments are: Dept. of Land and Water Resources & Conservation Engineering, Dept. of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, Dept. of Farm Power, Machinery & Energy, Dept. of Post Harvest Technology & Agri Processing, and Dept. of Supportive & Allied Courses of Study.

The research initiatives undertaken in the institute are focused on increasing the productivity of crops, livestock and fish currently grown in the state. The Instructional Farm attached to the College is one of the centers for producing grafts, seedlings, and seed materials under the “Integrated breeder seed multiplication program.”  Attached to the college is a Dairy Unit, which has herd strength of 30 at present. A veterinary Hospital also functions in the college. Techniques like Artificial Insemination are frequently used here to help the farmers with their livestock.

Facilities available at the campus include an Instructional - cum - Research Workshop, a Central Computing Facility, a Remote Sensing and Photographic Cell, and a Repographic and Audio Visual Unit. These facilities are utilized in the teaching process.
