The Govt.Engineering College, Wayanad is located in the hilly district of Wayanad, Kerala. This college is one among the four new engineering colleges in the state that were established in 1999. The college is affiliated to Kannur University.
The college offers eight semester undergraduate courses in the fields of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Candidates for admission to the B. Tech. Degree courses are required to have passed the Plus-2 Examination or any other examination accepted by the University as equivalent. A Diploma in Engineering awarded by the Board of Technical Examinations of Kerala is also considered adequate for admission.
The college library has a large collection of over 3000 books, 12 periodicals, CDs and reports. The library is fully computerized. The computer centre has several IBM 300GL workstations, Celeron nodes and a few server machines. A 64kbps leased line Internet facility is functional. The college runs a Continuing Education Program. In this, short term courses in Windows & MS Office, Internet Technology and Auto CAD, Java, C++, hardware maintenance and networking, and electrical wiring are conducted.
The Career Guidance and Placement Unit (CGPU) conducts Personality development Programs and mock interviews. A Student branch of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) organizes technical quizzes, seminars and other contests. Lectures by experts from industry and other academic institutions are also held. The college also provides a bus service which can be used for academic as well as personal purposes by students and staff. |
