Government Engineering College, Thrissur (GEC-T) is the second oldest engineering college in Kerala. It is located at Ramavarmapuram, 4 km from the center of Thrissur, Kerala. The college was established in 1957. In the beginning, the college was affiliated to the University of Kerala. When the University of Calicut was formed in 1968, the college got affiliated to it. For a brief spell from 1977 to 1980, the college was under the academic and administrative control of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT).
To run the various programs, the college utilizes the services of about 200 well-qualified teachers and 80 specially trained workshop and laboratory technicians. B-Tech courses are offered in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Production cum Plant Engineering, and Electronics & Communication Engineering. Admissions are based on the results of the Common Entrance Examination, Kerala.
Postgraduate courses are offered in following areas with intake of 8 students: Environmental Engineering (Civil Engineering Dept), Production Engineering (Mechanical Engineering Dept), Power Systems Engineering (Electrical & Electronics Engineering Dept), Process Control (Chemical Engineering Dept), and Computer Applications (MCA).
The college has four Hostel Blocks for Men and two Hostel Blocks for women students. The college has a Grievance Cell comprising of 6 Faculty members to look into the grievances of the students. The elected College Union is the highest body that addresses the needs of the student community. A Cooperative Society supplies text books, practical manuals, note books, laboratory records, drawing instruments, surveying instruments and other stationary articles needed by the students. |
