Government Dental College

Government Dental College is located in Kottayam, Kerala. The college was established in the year 2000 by the government of Kerala. Admission for the first batch of 40 Bachelor of Dental Surgery students was conducted in September 2002. This college is considered to be the referral centre for minor and major maxillofacial surgical cases of Central Kerala. It is the third and latest dental college in the state.

The various departments of the college are: Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, Department of Periodontics, Department of Oral & maxillofacial surgery, Department of Orthodontics, Department of Prosthodontics, Department of Oral Pathology, and Oral Medicine. The college offers only the undergraduate level course in dentistry. Postgraduate programs are not offered as yet, but are in the process of being introduced.

The associated hospital has all modern equipment & facilities to provide state-of-the-art treatment, including ultrasonic scaling & root planing, various flap surgeries, periodontal plastic surgery including root coverage procedures & bone grafting. Recent advances in the field like GTR & dental implants will also be added soon. Students are taught procedures like routine dental extractions, extraction of grossly mutilated teeth, surgical removal of impacted teeth, removal of cysts & tumors, and management of trauma. In Oral Pathology, students are taught the laboratory diagnosis and histopathological examination of various oral and dental lesions. Other facilities provided include biopsy, staining for oral cancer screening etc.

Equipments are in the process of being installed to improve the teaching facilities of this institution. The college extends specialized treatment for thousands of patients in the region.
