Engineering College , Idukki

Government Engineering College, Idukki is situated in Painavu, Kerala. The Engineering College site is very near to the famous Idukki arch dam, attached to Idukki Hydel Power project. It was established in the year 2000 under the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Kerala. The College is affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and offers undergraduate courses in four branches of engineering.

The course for the B.Tech degree extends over a period of four academic years comprising of 8 semesters. Each semester normally comprises 16 weeks. The courses are offered in the disciplines of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, and Information Technology.

The college Library has around 9000 books in about 2500 titles. It subscribes to various national and international journals, newspapers and periodicals. Reprographic facility is also available in the Library at a nominal fee. The library is fully computerized.  Lab facilities are available for all the departments. The Computer Science Department has a computer lab with 39 interconnected workstations, with an IBM machine as the server. The Electronics Department is provided with Electronics Circuits Lab, Digital Circuits Lab, Microprocessor Lab, Communication Lab, and an Optical Communication Lab.

The Career Guidance & Placement Cell (CGPC) provides the students with opportunities for recruitment. It is run with active participation of the students and teachers. A Parent Teachers Association effectively works for the progress of the institution and the students. Student counseling sessions are held after regular working hours. The college has separate hostels for men, women, and staff members.
