College of Engineering, Poonjar is established by the Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD). College of Engineering, Poonjar started its functioning in the academic year 2000-2001. The College is affiliated to the prestigious Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT).
The institution offers 4 year B.Tech Degree courses in 3 disciplines, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Information Technology. Each branch has an annual intake of 60 students. The admission is purely based on the merit list in the State Common Entrance Test (CET).
The institute has well equipped laboratories and workshops. In order to promote the learning process, teachers have aids like LCD projectors, Video Conferencing and well maintained practical facilities. Completely equipped computer labs with high speed Internet connection are also provided. In the computer lab, students are encouraged to work in LINUX environments with the motive of promoting free software. The lab consists of Pentium III and Pentium IV machines only. The college prides itself on achieving the ‘one student one computer ‘goal.
For practical training, students use the Advanced Systems Lab, Advanced Communication Lab, Computer Networking lab, Microprocessor lab, Mechanical and Electrical workshops, etc. The college also avails EDUSAT facilities for online education.
The Placement Unit of the college is assisted by student representatives from all the departments. The Placement Unit functions together with the Entrepreneurship Development Club. They together organize lectures, seminars, group discussions, mock interviews, and industry visits. They also provide information to students regarding job opportunities and opportunities for higher studies, both in India and abroad. |
