Sri Venkateswara University was established in 1954. It is located in the famous temple town of Tirupati. The University has been laying great emphasis on teaching, research and extension activities in different subjects. It offers a wide range of subject departments, courses and research programs.
The University has eight constituent colleges concerning various subjects. Besides these colleges, it has two postgraduate centers at Kavali and Kadapa. The University has 58 departments. 71 different PG courses and several Diploma and Certificate courses are being run with a total academic faculty strength of 400. The total student strength is 5000, including research scholars.
The different colleges in the university are SVU College of Arts & Sciences, College of Biological & Earth Sciences, College of Commerce, Management & Information Sciences, College of Humanities, College of International Studies, and College of Mathematical & Physical Sciences. In addition, the SVU College of Engineering also falls under the purview of this university. Candidates seeking admission into the postgraduate courses have to qualify in the Research Entrance Test conducted by S.V. University.
The University has a well-equipped Computer Centre. It was established during the year 1984. Certificate courses of 16 weeks duration (evening course) are offered here. The subjects offered are UNIX & C, Oracle, Information Systems through COBOL, Organization and Operation of Micro Computers, Database Management, Word Processing, Programming with Java, Object-oriented technologies & C++. The Placement Cell helps students get jobs with companies like Oracle Software, Satyam Computers, TCS, Wipro, HAL, Voltas and Sonata. The cell can arrange placements for about 50% of its intake strength. |
