Sri Venkateshwara Medical College is located in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. The first batch of doctors from this college passed out in 1980. The college has completed 25 successful years of its existence.
The SV Medical College is a government run-medical college and has two associated hospitals; the SVRR Government Hospital and Maternity Hospital. These were started with great vision by the government. The institute boasts of quality teaching, modern facilities, and the latest equipments. However, the college does not have well-developed research facilities. The government is currently providing funds for the institution to work on some of the drawbacks that exist.
The entrance test for this college is the state-wide entrance examination, EAMCET. Students who clear standard XII with a minimum of 50 percent marks with Physics, Chemistry and Biology are eligible to appear for this exam. The college provides reserved seats for Scheduled Castes and Tribes, Backward Castes, and sportspersons. Seats are also reserved for NRIs; these seats are only available for a large donation to the college.
The college has all the required departments, including Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Forensic Medicine, Surgery, Medicine, ENT, and Community Medicine. Well developed laboratories and libraries are provided for the benefit of students. The college does not provide post-graduate course at present. However, the management is in the process of developing the required infrastructure for these courses.
The annual college fest, “Sparks” is a grand event. It gives an opportunity for the students to take part in various cultural and literary events. |
