Dr. Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (commonly called as Siddhartha Medical College) was established in 2003. It is located in the city of Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh. The institution was started by the Siddhartha Academy, which is running 14 educational institutions in the state. The main objective of the Academy is to establish and run educational institutions offering education at all levels in the fields of general, technical & professional education.
The college offers undergraduate education for young, aspiring doctors. The MBBS course runs for five years and six months. This period is inclusive of one year of internship, in which the students gain practical hands-on experience in dealing with patients. The intake for each year is 150 students. In order to get admission to this course, students have to pass Class XII examinations with Physics, Chemistry and Biology (or equivalent). The college has a history of producing some of the finest young doctors in the state.
Prior to the one year internship, students have to study various subjects as part of their curriculum. These include Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Forensic Medicine, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Pathology, Ophthalmology, ENT, and Community Medicine. Final year students are required to study the subjects of General Surgery, Medicine and Pediatrics.
The Siddhartha Medical College runs in conjunction with the Siddhartha School of Nursing, which was also established in 2003. In 2005, the Academy also established Drs. Sudha & Nageswara Rao Siddhartha Institute of Dental Sciences. This institute offers BDS courses for aspiring dental surgeons. |
