The Kakatiya Medical College is located in Warangal, Andhra Pradesh. The College was inaugurated on 23rd July, 1959 by Honorable Sri P. Karnakar, Minister of Health, Government of India.
The permanent campus of the college was inaugurated in 1966 by Indira Gandhi. The campus has one ladies hostel with 80 rooms, and 2 boys’ hostels. The current principal is Dr. Venugopal Padam. The college offers the five and a half year MBBS course, leading to a Bachelor’s degree in medicine. In addition, it offers Post Graduate courses in Anatomy, Physiology, ENT, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, General Medicine and Forensic Medicine. It also offers Diploma courses in the above-mentioned subjects, in addition to the subjects of Ophthalmology, Child Health, Anesthesia, Clinical Pathology and Chest Diseases.
The institute has excellent infrastructure for training of young doctors. All students complete one year of internship after the commencement of the course. During this period, the students work in the emergency wards and out patient departments. This provides them with hands-on experience of dealing with emergencies and different kinds of patient problems.
The recent advances in the college include a new hostel (Rayudu Hostel), in order to accommodate more students. Another air-conditioned library for undergraduates will be inaugurated soon. Post graduate courses will be introduced in para-clinical courses as well.
