Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University was established on 2nd October, 1972, by an act of State Legislature. The University was established with the objectives of strengthening and improving the standards of Technological Education and making it relevant to the rural and industrial development of the country. The JNTU is located in Kukatpally, Hyderabad.
On formation of JNTU, the Government Engineering Colleges at Anantapur, Kakinada and Hyderabad, along with the Government College of Fine Arts and Architecture at Hyderabad, became its constituent colleges. In order to provide thrust for research and development in emerging areas, a nucleus has been created at the University Headquarters in form of Institute for Post Graduate Studies and Research (IST
JNTU has produced highly professional and competitive engineers. To improve the quality of technical education, it participates actively in a number of National Programs like Teacher Quality Improvement Programs and Expansion of Infrastructure facilities for emerging Technologies. Distance Education programs in Civil, Electronics & Electrical, Mechanical and Electronics & Communication engineering were started by the University in 1983. Through its College of Fine Arts and School of Architecture, the university also offers courses in creative arts, architectural design and planning.
The University Library caters to the needs of all the constituent colleges. The Library occupies a spacious three storied building on the main campus of University at Kukatpally. The library provides special services like Current Awareness Services, selective dissemination of information, indexing and abstracting along with the normal services like reference and referral, literature searching, bibliographic data, and on-line services. |
