Government Engineering College

The Government Engineering College is located in the city of Vishakhapatnam. The college is affiliated to the Andhra University. In June 1966, the College of Engineering was instituted as a separate constituent of Andhra University. A separate Faculty of Engineering was simultaneously constituted with Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering units as constituents of the Faculty.

The College offers undergraduate and post-graduate programs in a variety of streams. These include electronics, civil engineering, mechanical, metallurgy, computer science, chemical engineering and geological engineering. Research work is being carried out in all the Departments and Sections leading to Ph.D. level in several branches of the Engineering Faculty. Members from local industries have been co-opted on Engineering Boards of Studies. The local industries cooperate with the college by giving training to the students inside their plants.
Residential Hostel consists of 6 blocks and has single rooms. The complex is under the supervision of a Chief Warden and six Wardens. The North Campus play-fields are under the supervision of a separate Physical Director. The Gandhi Memorial Library serves as a library-cum-auditorium. The technical section of the Dr. V.S. Krishna Memorial Library was transferred to the central block of the Engineering College in the year 1974.

Over the years, the development of the College in all its departments has increased by rapid strides. Postgraduate courses were started in 1963 in all the departments leading to M.E. Degree. These were supported by U.G.C. grants. Part-time degree courses and Evening diploma courses were also started to meet the needs of the locally employed personnel.
