Andhra University, located in Visakhapatnam, is one of the older premier universities in India. It was established in 1925 and shared affiliating responsibilities with the Madras University in the initial years. The University contains two sections; the South Campus, housing the Arts, Humanities, and Sciences departments, and the North Campus, comprising the Engineering College.
The University also has campuses outside Visakhapatnam; these are located in the districts of Srikakulam, East Godavari, West Godavari and Vizianagaram. These campuses cater to the needs of post-graduate students. A number of Bachelor’s degree programs are offered. Some of these are Bachelor of Science programs in Applied Mathematics, Applied Chemistry, Anthropology, Computer Science, Hydrology, Inorganic Chemistry, Nuclear Chemistry, Space Physics, Economics, and Psychology. Another new course, B.Com (customer service management) is being introduced followed by a MoU signed between the School of Distance Education and HSBC.
Post Graduate programs are also offered in a vast range of subjects. In addition, the university offers Research Programs (such as M.Phil and PhD). The new courses being introduced are ME (construction technology and project management) in Civil Engineering Department., MCA, MSc (organic chemistry), and one-year full time PG diploma in risk and insurance management. New certificate courses are also being planned. These include part-time diploma course in Arabic, short-term diploma course in acting, certificate course in television acting and anchoring and certificate course in make-up.
In addition to campus education, the University has about 85,000 students pursuing their Under Graduate and Post Graduate courses under Distance Education
