Acharya Nagarjuna University is one of the largest universities in India. It is located at NagarjunaNagar in the suburban area of Guntur City, which is a major centre for education.
Nagarjuna University, an affiliating University established in 1976, started with only ten post-graduate courses in the University College. These courses have been taught ever since the existence of the university. The university is an outgrowth of a Post-Graduate Centre of Andhra University, which was established in 1967 in the Nallapadu area of Guntur City. It has achieved tremendous progress over the years, as a result of various expansion and improvement programs.
The University at present offers post-graduate education in 44 courses (of which 35 are offered on the main University campus), besides Post-graduate courses in affiliated colleges. In addition to its main campus, the university also maintains two post-graduate centers in Nuzvid, Krishna District and Ongole, Prakasam District. The university affiliates the post-graduate programs of 292 educational institutes in Guntur, Krishna, and Prakasam districts of Andhra Pradesh.
The regular programs offered at the main campus include courses in law, history, economics, archaeology, public science, mathematics, physics, geology, chemistry, botany, chemistry, statistics, zoology and commerce. The Nuzvid campus offers courses in applied mathematics, physics, chemistry and biochemistry. On the Ongole campus, all the courses are self-financed. These include economics, history, mathematics and business administration.
The University Library has about 100,000 books & journals. The Computer Centre is ready to meet all IT needs. The University Science Instrumentation Centre maintains scientific equipment to facilitate research. |
