Raveena Tandon was born on October 26, 1970 to Bollywood director Ravi Tandon and his wife Veena. Raveena got her unusual name from a combination of her father and mother’s name. Once in her teens, Raveena started receiving a lot of offers because of her extremely good and sensual looks.
She made her debut with Patthar Ke Phool in 1991 opposite Salman Khan. Though the film was a flop and did not do well, she won the Filmfare Lux New Face Award for it. She then acted in Andaaz Apna Apna in 1994 which made more headlines for her fight with the other leading lady of the film, Karisma Kapoor. This film too disappeared without a trace.
However, it was her next film that made Raveena into an overnight success. She acted in Mohra in 1994 along with Akshay Kumar. This film went on to be a blockbuster hit and her song Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast in the film went on to top the charts. However, Raveena could not keep the moment going. Her next films were labeled as flops. But that did not stop her from acting. She reclaimed her hit status with her role in Ziddi in 1997.
From this point onwards, Raveena started concentrating on films that won her critical acclaim rather than being box office hit. She showed her histrionic skills when she acted in films like Shool in 19999, Bulandi in 2000 and Aks in 2001. However, it was with Aks that Raveena made everyone realize that she serious about playing meaningful roles. She won a lot of critical acclaim for her role in Aks and that won her the Filmfare Special Performance Award. Raveena went on to win the National Film Award for Best Actress in 2001 for her brilliant performance in Daman: A Victim of Marital Violence where she portrayed a wife of an abusive husband.
In the 1990s, Raveena started dating her co-star of many films Akshay Kumar. This was the time that Raveena started acting in films that would help Akshay Kumar in his career. She also stopped refusing roles in other big banner movies because she assumed that Akshay and she were going to get married. However, this relationship did not last. Today Raveena is married to Anil Thadani who is a film producer. Raveena and Anil have a daughter who was born on March 10, 2005.
