This Aquarian was born on January 31, 1975 in Simla. At 5’5’’ inches Preity is known for her gorgeous smile and bubbly personality. Preity finished her schooling from Jesus and Mary Simla Convent School and then went on to St Bedes College. From there she moved to Mumbai to study Criminal Psychology at Bombay University.

Preity’s father , Durganand Zinta, was an officer in the Indian Army. Her father died in a car accident when Preity was thirteen. Her mother, Nilprabha, was also involved in this accident which left her bedridden. Preity has two brother, one older, Deepanker, and the other younger, Manish. One of her brothers is officer in the Indian Army.

Preity shot to fame with modeling for Liril soap. Then she modeled for Perk shampoo and the crowds were sold on her dimpled smile. The famous director Shekhar Kapur noticed her in the Liril advertisement and decided to do a film titled Tara Rum Pum. However, the film did not get made as Shekhar got busy with other projects.

Right after this, Preity got an offer to do Kundan Shah’s film Kya Kehna. Technically this is Preity’s first film but her first release was Dil Se in 1998, a Mani Ratnam film. The film was a huge success and Preity won a lot of acclaim for her acting. She won the Filmfare Best Debut Award for her role in Dil Se.

2003 saw the release of two biggest earning films and both had Preity Zinta in the female lead role. Koi… Mill Gaya and Kal Ho Naa Ho. Her performance in Kal Ho Naa Ho was greatly appreciated and she won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for this. In 2004, her film Lakshya was released. Unfortunately this film did not do well in the box office. However, her next release Veer-Zaara was the biggest box office hit of the year. This was followed by Salaam Namaaste in 2005 which was a huge success in overseas markets.

In 2004, Preity along with a group of top stars like Shahrukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Saif Ali Khan, Arjun Rampal and Priyanka Chopra staged the Temptation 2004 in Chicago, an extravagant entertainment show. This was a huge success.

In May 2006, Karan Johar and Preity Zinta received an invitation from Cannes Film Festival to represent Bollywood at Cannes. They took this opportunity to promote their new film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. The film was released in August 2006 and has done extremely well in the box office.
