This 18 year old dusky beauty has taken the Kerala film industry by storm. Navya’s real name is Dhanya Nair. Her mother gave her the screen name Navya to bring her good luck when she embarked into the Malayalam film industry. Navya is studying in the twelfth grade and lives in Allepey district of Kerala. Her father, Ranjan, is with telecommunications department while her mother, Veena, a school teacher. Navya has a younger brother, Rahul, who studying in the fifth grade.
Being a small petite actress, Navya rose to fame with her role in Ishtam opposite Dileep, a famous Malayalam actor. She went on to do another film opposite him, Mazhathullikilukam which was immediately labeled a hit. With these two hits behind her, young Navya is all set to take the Malayalam film industry by storm.
She is being compared to Manju Warrier, a talented and famous actress in the Malayalam film industry who has given up acting after marriage. He co-star Dileep has also praised Navya for her acting skills and talent.
Navya is known to portray a typical Malayali girl in films. In 2002 she won the Kerala State Award for the Best Actress for her role in Nandanam. She won this award again in 2005 for her acting prowess in Kanne Madanguka and Saira.
Of late it is reported that Navya has her sight on the Tamil film industry. She has already acted in a couple of Tamil films which were super hits and catapulted her into instant stardom. Navya made her debut in Tamil films with Azhagiya Theeye followed by Chidambarathil Oru Appaswamy. Since then, Navya has acted in a number of Tamil films which have all been runaway successes. 2006, saw Navy entering the Kannada film circuit where she has signed up to act in a Kannada remake of the Tamil film Pithamagan which was a super hit.
It was reported that when the producer of the film Aadum Koothu walked out, Navya joined hands with the Tamil actor, Cheran, and the camera man to form a production company called Lights and Shadow to produce this film. She is acting in this film opposite Cheran. In September 2006, Navy won the Best Actress Award at the International Film Festival in Russia for her role of a television journalist in her Malayalam film Saira. |
