She started out as a theatre artist. The stage was the more popular media of her times. Gradually she forayed into films. In her early days, she mainly focused on comedy. Her comic capers with distinguished comic comedian Nagesh were widely acclaimed.

Manorama's role in Thillana Mohanambal won her accolades and made a mark even with the presence of charismatic stalwarts like Sivaji Ganesan and Natiya Peroli (Danseuse) Padmini in the movie. from that time, she received numerous opportunities to showcase her skill in acting through a variety of roles with myriad hues, in addition to comedy.
