Jyothirmayi began her acting career as
an artist in television serials. Indraneelam is one of her well-known tele-series.
She appeared in some telefilms as well, but failed to make a mark. Her
first film in the silver screen was Pilots, in which she played a minor
role. The film was not successful at the box office. He first big hit was
the film Savanna. After her film Meesha Madhavan released and went on to
become a huge hit, she entered the top slot of the sought-after actresses.
Since then, she has acted in various films in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu,
Hindi and English. She has acted opposite most of the celebrated actors of
Malayalam film industry including Mohanlal and Mammootty, and also
opposite superstars like Sathyaraj, Vijaykanth and the like. She was
awarded the State Award for Best Second Actress in 2002 for her film
Bhavam
On September 6, 2004, Jyothirmayi got married to Nishanth, a software
engineer, whom she had been dating since an early age. After her marriage,
even tthough she mentioned nothing about any plans of quitting films,
lucrative film offers started to dry down. This must be because the
established norm of the film industry - a married girl is not considered
to be fit for leading roles, despite several contraries to this trend. She
got to perform in an item number in Jayam Ravi's 'Idayathirudan', directed
by Charan. But she had to hide the fact that she was married and dismiss
such reports as rumors to bag that offer. Charan discovered the truth only
after the filming was complete. Her dance performance got her rave reviews
and she was offered a lead role opposite Kushboo's husband Sundar C .
The audience, however, continues to eagerly await her upcoming releases.
