Genelia D’Souza was born in a Goan family in England. She returned to India to appear in the highly popular television ads of Parker pens along with none other than the Big B Amitabh Bachchan. Even though she was much awed by the screen demigod, her act was spontaneous. Later she worked with cricketer Srikkanth in an advertisement of the skin tone lightening product Fair and Lovely. Soon she joined Hindi films with Tujhe Meri Kasam in 2003, which was a non-starter. Then she entered the Kollywood film industry with the big budget Tamil movie Boys, opposite another new comer Siddarth under the able hands of renowned director Shankar. The director renamed her Harini. The film was highly successful, and this enabled Genelia to get a foothold in the industry. She received multiple offers even from Tollywood, the Telugu film industry in Andhra Pradesh, where she starred in several hit films like Satyam, Samba and Sye. Her work was widely appreciated and she gained immense popularity. At about this time, she delivered another super hit Hindi movie, the comic caper Masti, where she was a part of the ensemble star cast that included Viveik Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani, Tara Sharma and Amrita Rao. Her career in Tamil films was also flourishing, with films like Sachein, opposite Vijay and also Happy in which she was paired with Allu Arjun. She gave her career best performance and won accolades with Bommarillu, with Siddharth Narayan, which was immensely successful. She also participated in veteran film maker Mani Ratnam's stage show, Netru, Indru, Naalai. The Tamil audience is eagerly awaiting her next releases, which includes one project alongside the super star Jayam Ravi.
