This glamorous beauty was born on June 8, 1957 and short to stardom with her film Bobby. The legendary actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor discovered Dimple and casted her in Bobby in 1973 where she acted opposite Rishi Kapoor. Dimple’s father was a Gujarati entrepreneur Chunnibhai Kapadia while her mother is called Betty. Dimple has a younger sister named Simple who forayed into acting but was unsuccessful.
Six months before the release of Bobby, Dimple chose to marry the then superstar actor Rajesh Khanna and left acting to be a wife. She and Rajesh Khanna have two daughters, Twinkle and Rinkie. After 12 years of marriage, Dimple divorced Rajesh Khanna and moved out with her two daughters.
She made her comeback with the film Saagar opposite Rishi Kapoor, the same actor opposite whom she acted in Bobby. At that point Dimple was only 27 years old, divorced with two children. Dimple received a lot of critical acclaim for Saagar where she stirred up controversy by exposing her breasts to the camera for a few frames.
Saagar marked Dimple’s return to Bollywood with gusto. She went on to act in a number of films thereafter including Rudaali for which she won the National Film Award for Best Actress. In 2001, Dimple acted as an alcoholic divorced mother in Dil Chahta Hai. Here she acted opposite Akshaye Khanna and was his love interest. It is claimed that this is Dimple’s best performance ever.
In 2005, she once again acted opposite Rishi Kapoor in the film Pyar Mein Twist. This was nearly 32 years after Bobby and 20 years after Sagaar. After return to acting, Dimple acted in parallel films as well as commercial ones for which got a lot of critical acclaim. Dimple is an actress of substance though her smoldering eyes and tresses just add to her persona.
She had a long term relationship with Sunny Deol but both never spoke about it to the media. Dimple’s daughter Twinkle followed her mother’s footsteps and became a successful actress in her own rights before marrying Akshay Kumar.
