Kapoor is one of the most popular and promising upcoming actors of the Hindi film industry today. His parents, both noted actors, divorced when he was three. He grew up with his mother. He trained in dancing under Shiamak Davar and acted in roles of extras, featured in music videos and modeled for commercials. A glimpse of him dancing is just visible in the song Kahin Aag Lage from the movie Taal.

He is a perfectionist to the core. When he was 18, he accidentally landed the commercial for Pepsi which starred Shahrukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee This paved his way for his entry into films.He debuted with 'Ishq Vishk Pyaar Vyaar' in 2003 opposite the svelte Amrita Rao, with whom he shares a great onscreen chemistry. It was a hit and he was awarded the best debutant award in the 2003 Filmfare Awards as well as in the Star Screen Awards and the Zee Cine Awards. In 2004, he acted in two more films. One was a thriller Fida, in which his co-star was his real-life girlfriend Kareena Kapoor, and Fardeen Khan. The other film was Dil Maange More, a romantic comedy where he was paired with Soha Ali Khan, Tulip Joshi, and Ayesha Takia. Both films proved to be box office duds, but Kapoor’s performances in both the films were applauded. His subsequent releases Life Ho To Aisi and Shikhar failed at the box office. He received a Screen Best Actor Nomination for his work in Shikhar, even though the film had flopped.

In 2006, Shahid saw his first box office success since his debut with the multi-starrer, 36 China Town - a comic-thriller which became made above-average business. Shahid’s next film was Chup Chup Ke, which also went on to become a hit. Both the films had Kareena Kapur as his co-star.

His latest film Vaah! is watchable despite its dated sugarcoated theme only due to his boyish charisma and pleasant acting prowess.

This 25 year old charmer is an energetic and ravishing dancer and has a huge, ever-growing fan following, mostly comprising of the females of the teen brigade. In the summer of 2006, Shahid set out on a World Tour accompanied by fellow Bollywood stalwarts -  Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, John Abraham, Esha Deol, Mallika Sherawat, and Zayed Khan.

In his personal life, this heartthrob of Indian teens has been dating the Bollywood sensation Kareena Kapoor. He is so enamored by her that he hates to see her in the arms of anyone else onscreen. Nevertheless, he understands the demands of their acting profession.
