Born in a farmers family,he got his bachelors of arts and took up a job with the government.Married to Nandamuri Basavatarakam, he shifted to films,and his first film was Manadesam in 1949 in which he acted as a Police Officer.His first movie as a hero was PALLETOORI PILLA and was a super hit. His subsequent movies SHAVUKARU, PAATHAALABHAIRAVI, MALLESWARI and CHANDRAHAARAM established him as the premier hero in the telugu film industry. He acted in a mythological role as Lord Krishna for the first time in Mayabazaar and acted in most of the major roles in Ramayana and Mahabharatam ,even in Tamil films.
