User Search Patterns

We did an analysis on user search patterns on Google and MSN and found that about 20 people a day searched for stories on long distance relationships. Why? I really don't know. I guess it must be that people are scared of it. Because after having analyzed other searches, we see people looking for "trust in a long distance relationship" and how to "break off a long distance relationship".

Personal Story

Let me preface this article by saying that I am no expert in long distance relationships. I don't think there really are people that are experts. I think it is safe to say that most people fear a long distance relationship, but let me explain why you should not.

My second relationship was with a woman I met in college. It was a rocky but fun relationship from the start. But during that summer, I went off to teach children at a computer camp at the University of Minnesota. Being away from her for those 10 weeks turned out to be my first stab at a long distance relationship. We could not kiss, hug, walk while holding hands. We could not go out to watch movies together, dance at a club, or eat at any restaurant.

I admit doing something with your significant other feels great! Not being able to do these things with her hurt me. But to compensate for our lack of being together, we developed a stronger bond that was based on communications. Calling each other on the phone got us to talking to each other more than we ever could possible.

Long Distance Relationship vs. Physical Close Relationship

• Instead of talking about what movies we want to watch that night, or where to go eat, we talked about our childhoods.
• Instead of talking about superficial daily stuff about people we mutually know, we talked about deep rooted political and sociological observations.
• Instead of kissing and hugging, we learned the art of romance through poetry and the word of mouth. Courtship at its finest!

Word to the Wise

A relationship does not have to be only about physical chemistry. Speaking as a dude that gets turned on from a simple compliment, I much prefer mental chemistry.

So you fools that break off relationships because of distance, take a long hard look at what you are missing.
